Switching to SDE

Location: Seattle
TC: 210k at 4 years (willl drop next year)
Title: L5 SysDE

I have moved to a SysDE role from an NDE role but now tierd of doing infra work. Want to do something more product related specially customer facing products. Given my background I dont have solid experience in software development - Java, Api development etc.
How hard would such a switch be? will it be a big challenge? Has anyone done it before?
One thing I have noticed is how hard it is to find a mentor and grow a professional network at Amazon.
