1. Have you seen people getting on to get H1B visa while being on a L1 visa when they take transfer from India to US? I ask because people transfer with a simple Btech and generally no MS from US and MS students typically have a higher chance of getting H1b.

2. If I am on L1 visa, and go for a part time masters, then, after it's completion, will I be considered in the 20,000 quota that is reserved separately for MS students during H1b allocation? Or does one need to be enrolled full time in masters in order to be considered for it?

  • I did my masters part time and was considered for the quota this year. As long as your degree says MS ( differs with programs ) you technically have put in the same money and effort to graduate, and I kid you not it will take effort.

    • With MS degree, you get two tries. One in the 20,000 pool, and then if you didn't get that, you are moved into the 65,000 pool for that year. Do the math.

    • I have lots of friends who got through the lottery without a masters and on the first attempt. Chances are definitely higher with a masters

  • I got the OMSCS degree, came here on L1, applied in H1B masters quota and won the lottery in the first try. AMA.

Is it true even in Amazon? I mean, I ask, because mostly I see almost everyone who is SDE2 at Amazon is able to transfer internally to US through L1 visa. I mean, I see no barrier from Amazon, unless one is unfortunate enough that US authorities reject their L1 visa. I might be wrong though. Do you have something else in mind?

    • Earlier there was no 1 year must stay after promotion in amazon. It came last year. So they are making it tougher to move.

Seems like getting a Visa is the only aim.
