Been reading about Blockchain/crypto recently and the space looks very interesting. Looks like lot of scope for core development there. However most are small startups, so compensation and visa sponsorship looks like an issue. Anybody here thinking about joining crypto space? Or should I buckle down start leetcoding to prepare for FANG instead. 10+ yrs experience in backend/DS in Bay Area.

Beware of “buy Ethereum” advice as a hedge against not pursuing Blockchain. That’s like saying in 1999 “if you’re not going into dot coms, buy a dot com domain”. It’s not at all the same thing; the purchase goes towards infrastructure, whereas the value unlocks from the processes enabled by a new protocol to do things.
I can’t afford the risk of taking on big mortgage payments, and I have to deal with the chaos of unknown expectations at work. But I’m learning. Maybe someday it pays off. And if not, life is too short anyway.
