Will be joining a fully remote company, and compensation doesn't change with location. Currently live in Oregon which has very high state income tax, would love to move to low or none state income tax area. Love to have great outdoor and mountains, decent public/private school system, considering Washington and Colorado. Since spouse and I both WFH, we'd like to live a little far from city center but reasonable driving distance (<1h) to major airport. Any recommendations of specific county/city/zip code? Thank you! TC: 400k, spouse: 440k (may drop 5-10% depending on location). #remotework
Idaho has a lot of great recreation.
True, esp. west part of Idaho, indeed paradise for outdoor stuff. How about the quality of k12 education there?
Don’t know, considering making the move from Oregon there and finding out
Utah
States with no income tax and low COL
Texas but only in a city.
I'm looking at the reverse. So sick of Texas summers and Texas politics. Plus, while State Income Tax is low, Property Taxes and Sales taxes are not.
Colorado is quite pleasant
What do you do to make that much ? Genuinely curious
Colorado. Nicer areas of WA have extremely depressing weather, it’s worth the ~4% income tax to see the sun all year in CO. There are lots of places that meet those requirements within a 1-2hr drive of Denver international. Austin is great too, but the outdoors doesn’t compare.
What company?
Colorado over Washington. Anywhere over Washington
If you add some reasoning would be great
WA is very expensive (anywhere near Seattle) and has depressing weather for at least 9 months out of 12. If in the Bay area you overpay for good weather, sun, year-round recreation, in Seattle you overpay for rain and endless overcast.

Level and yoe? Are at Nike?
staff level, 6yoe, not at Nike anymore. Any recommendations of locations?
Since you have stayed in Portland, Washington would be a good place for you, go to some small town like Spokane or tri-cities. If you can afford 1M house, north of Seattle like mill creek everette are good place to live.
