My Story at Amazon(PiP) and Blind support
I had such a high hopes when joined Amazon :/
Joined this AWS new team everyone was new.
New manager(he had 18 Yoe in one organization, he was director in that organization)
New team, I think everyone in my team was woking late and even on weekends.
There was lot of pressure of deadline as most of us were new were not aware of infrastructures we didnāt finished our embark training( as we were bombarded with work after two weeks)
For me I was meeting those deadline by working on weekend taking off from work so that I can work on my days off without disturbance.
In 1.3 year we delivered most the imp tasks for the product that were needed.
During this 1.3 year 3 people left the team saying this not the kind of work or culture they want.
So me being naive I told my manager that I am thinking of changing the team. I think I am exhausted as I didnāt take any leave in my tenure and I cannot work on weekend any more.
My manger told me that you should manage you time and Learn more become more fast so that you can have time for yourself.
But two weeks later after he put my in Focus plan stating:
1. The project I was working on got delayed by 12 days. (Although no project in team was on time)
2. Stated I didnāt track one of the sister team pipeline and after my manger intervention the pipeline was unblocked. Stating I am not taking ownership (Although half of the team member code was in the pipeline )
3. The ticket incoming and solve ratio went up in my current on call (Stating incompetent in ops).
So there was a Focus/dev list task given to me:
I was on top of my tasks but the feedback I used to get:
1) My participation getting low in scrum.
2) I was nudged to do a security video training.
3) I missed the graph in my report( which I put in 30 seconds when I was asked in meeting).
At that point I joined blind and asked for advise.
I followed the advice started leet coding. And doing bare minimum on my tasks. But I wasted my 40 days in focus tasks.
So after 60 days of my focus I was put into PiP, I didnāt had any job at that time and was on visa so I accepted PiP.
But thankfully before my PiP end I got a new better offer.
I know I have missed deadline for my project, I didnāt tracked the pipeline, ticket count went up on my on call.
But if I am a bad SDE my manager is worst.
Also during last 2 months 5 more people have left the team he is incompetent but I think no one is gonna pip him.
I also want to say that if anyone of you are in focus or PiP just do leet code as they donāt want you why you want to prove to them???
If you work more itās not gonna help you it will help you manager to achieve his tasks.
At last I want to thank blind community which was very helpful, all the advice I got here was gold. Thank you so much guys.

Messed up at work.
Got pip.
Did LC.
Got a new job.
Sincerely,
OPās manager.
Iāve seen lots of people come from Amazon in the last few years. Iāve only seen one go back and that was a location issue.
No one wants to work at Amazon unless they have no other option.
Amazon may not be able to hire any good engineers with this toxic working environment.
If everyone leaves or at least wants to leave, how do they retain people??
