I am a new new hire in tech that got put on PIP. I see it as a result of limited experience and a poor fit with the team. My team is not diverse (i was one of few female employes in my position there) - not sure if that requires different behavior patterns. What are advantages of taking on the improve plan which does not seem to be attainable? Any thoughts on which could be better for a new hire going forward? #pip

    • LinkedIn is wrong. Unless you feel like discrimination really took place, don’t do that, OP.

I’m sure you can both keep your dignity and find a better place where the manager and peers will invest in your growth.

Just started interviewing now while you still have time to get more than one offer and pick the position that’ll suit your needs.

    • Twitter, I don’t disagree with you, I was simply stating that finding a mentor with similar challenges to you could be very valuable, and to pretend that where we come from, how were taught and raised, and the challenges we face being female, black, Chinese etc aren’t unique, is simply not correct.

I just don’t understand those who are so sensitive to her mentioning her gender!!

First of all, she never blamed her gender for her situation. Second of all, none of you know what her team’s dynamic is like. Unless you are in her shoes, you wouldn’t know how she is treated by her manager.

But women are underrepresented in tech and sexism can exist in the workplace. So it’s possible that her manager discriminates against her based on her gender. My point is, if you are someone that hasn’t been victimized by sexism, don’t say “gender has nothing to do with this.” You aren’t OP, so you don’t know.

Also, to reiterate her question, she asked for advice on pip for a new hire. If you are just gonna complain about her mentioning of her gender and won’t provide constructive answer to her question, GTFO.
