At Sr SWE LinkedIn Infra track has a 3 hour system design allocation. That is 3 system design interviews. They ask standard large scale system design questions with an expectation that interviewee drives the session gathering requirements, stating reasonable assumings, building from a small to a large scale system. Some focus on network scale and some on scalable data structures.
At Staff, it is similar but the interviewee should need lesser help and should be able to build the system better by using lessons from experience designing such systems.
How different is it at Google (Or a comparable like Uber)? L5 seems to have 1 design round and L6 2. How are the expectations from the interviewee and the HC for these levels? This will help me and others focus on the right parts of the system and use the limited 45min (vs 1 hr at LInkedIn) effectively.
