Meetings/Work Overload

Feb 25 4 Comments

I have been working a lot and so has the expectation of management/team increased

1. In the past companies would provide desktops at work. Slow internet. You were only supposed to work/attend meetings during work hours (9-5). Clear distinction between work and life.

2. Companies started providing laptops for work. Faster internet at work and home. Now you are also expected to work from home after work hours. Work life boundary gets blurred.

3. Meeting recordings. This increased the number of meetings you need to attend. If there are multiple meetings at the same time you are expected to attend one and watch the recordings of other meetings later. Guess what you are only supposed to work 8 hours a day and only so much meeting can fit on 8 hours but now you are working 16 hours or more.

4. Smartphones/ play my emails : because of smartphones now people listen to their emails while commuting to work or do other work related stuff on their phone during vacation.

5. VR: in future you will probably be supposed to completely immerse yourself in 24/7 work. Microsoft and Meta are already building VR meetings software.

Those who think you can shut your computer at 5 pm should know that managers see you and your colleagues a racer in a racing event. And the rewards are based on who’s the fastest or who contributed more (ignoring the favoritism part). They don’t care if you performed the best in the 8 working hours. If everybody else is contributing more by working 16 hours you are supposed to do the same. There is only so much you can do in 8 hours/ 5 days a week.

Interested to know your thoughts.
