Just approached by recruiters from google cloud platform in Tokyo. the position is technical solutions engineer, level 2 support. anyone could share some insights on it, like pressure, work-life balance, and life in Japan since I'm in Shanghai? recruiter said there is less interference than the more frontlined engineers and vendors, although the issues are going to be the most complicated to solve and sometimes urgent. Typical support hours 9am-4pm, with the freedom, to some degree, to work on some side projects, perhaps improving internal tools etc.
In general google is a really low stress environment to work. People do not work more than 40 hours a week, everyone is friendly, smart and super supportive. The only issue I have seen with my friends is that they talk themselves out of applying to google - we're a very approachable company
@google - can I DM you?
come to google Tokyo, the best office view, the best food and the best facilities!
I’m down, but it’s gotta be competitive no? And I don’t know japanese
It’s fine that you don’t know Japanese. Half of the expats here don’t speak Japanese and get along well. Google will pay you to learn Japanese if you want.
