  • If you're getting rejected at the resume screening stage, your resume's probably not keyword optimized. A lot of resumes get automatically screened out by ATS before it even gets seen by a recruiter. As a UC Berkeley Data Science major, you probably have at least exposure to all the keywords that they're asking for. Don't be shy to put them down to get your foot in the door just to get your resume seen by a human, even if you're not an expert. Also try adjusting your resume language to be more what the ATS is expecting.

There are free tools to help you with that, like this: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jobalytics-resume-keyword/fkiljfkkceaopbpfgfmjdnkiejaifkgd?hl=en&utm_source=blind&utm_medium=social

Thank you so much! I've looked into roles at Yelp, would I be able to pick your brain regarding them?

Do you know of any openings on your team or a neighboring team? Can I get a referral?

Not bad to take a contract role to develop yourself and gain experience immediately if you need to start earning immediately

I’m a DA and recent college grad (May 2019). BuiltInLA (there’s a “BuiltIn” for most major cities I think) was my go to for my 1st few interviews. There’s a whole section for data roles and there were really great companies listed. I’d try that!

Tip: previous exp and side projects are all the recruiters I spoke too seemed to care about so highlight those as well as you can.
