One of my friends has a PhD in applied mathematics, he knows some programming but not an expert, no CS industrial experience, 0 YOE.
He wants to apply for FB & Google SDE positions, do you guys know will he be interviewed as IC3 or IC4? Do FB & Google only give IC4 to CS PhDs? He wants to be IC4, will it be possible?
Want to see the real deal?

Im pretty sure everyone hiring phds hires as L4 or equivalent.
"0 yoe," a PhD is kind of a job. It's not like regular school and companies don't view it as regular school.
