Currently working as L6 Product Manager (Tech)(TC 64L) in Amazon India and my wife working with a digital marketing startup (TC ~4L).

We both want to move out of India however confused which country should we relocate to?
Things we are looking for:
-continue my PM T experience (don't want to downgrade to PM role
-hope for better life (WLB, traveling opportunities)
-easier country for my wife to find a new job in digital marketing, client servicing
-(not preferred but a study opportunity in digital marketing would also work
#Amazon, #PM #digitalmarketing

Don't choose Germany. It's a dead-end country with terrible pay and insane taxes. And before you ask why I say this: I am German and desperately trying to leave this shithole.

So at least to me (born in Germany) itโ€™s the following:

      1. Everything here feels like a standstill. There is no innovation, nothing is moving. People on Germany like to say โ€žAt least German is better than ...โ€œ but every year the country they compare Germany with gets worse.
      2. Germany has barely any social movement. If youโ€™re lower middle class you will be lower middle class all your life.
      3. Being a software DEV is not valued in Germany. You barely get paid more than other office professions. Youโ€™re neither gonna be able to afford a nice house in a city nor retire early ever in your life.
      4. Besides salaries being low, taxes are high. While at the same time the politicians are so corrupt even Americans would feel ashamed.
      5. QoL is relatively low compared with other first world countries.

Compared with other major players the future will only get worse in Germany. Things might look better if you have a family because of good social programs but as a single guy it really couldnโ€™t be worse.

To add to this I'm an Indian and ended up moving to Germany and it's the 4th country I'm living in. Had an opportunity to relocate to the Netherlands this year but didn't take it because of spousal constraints. Germany does seem pretty bleak in terms of economic mobility. Salary upside is limited and language is a huge barrier for marketing jobs for your wife. US would be great for you but know that your spouse probably have to jump hurdles to be able to work. You can be very lucky and she can probably starry working after masters or very unlucky and she won't be able to work for a long time. Germany has few things going for it - good social support if you want to start family, access to nature and other European destinations easily and somewhat of a good work life balance. I'm trying to convince myself that this is where I want to live though.

    Hi
The intent of sharing my wife's TC is not to draw comparison with my TC but to outline a fact to get a sense of difficulty in getting a similar job overseas.
I will appreciate if we can stick to the point being discussed and not go into judging anyone unnecessarily

OP what's the difference between technical product manager and product manager? Did you mean project manager vs technical project manager instead?

  • English speaking would be necessary for digital marketing or will limit options in Germany.

      Yeah that's true.
She needs to either way learn a new language for Lux or Germany.
Will learning German may help in Luxembourg?
      Apr 3, 2021
    • Luxembourg is an expat city. Job descriptions there ask for 3-4 languages like German, French and even Dutch! So it is a tough place to be in.

Aim for single language countries if learning language is not a issue.

Scandinavia is an option if not looking for TC. Language is not the most important thing either. And even NL where English is widely accepted.

Can reccomend Dubai for expat city and good pay.

Dubai has 0 tax but pay is also low I believe.
Glassdoor (don't have any other source to check) says L6 PM makes 300K AED ~ 86k USD in a year.
Even if I have 0 tax it is way lesser than Seattle L6 PM (145K base, 200+ TC).
Didn't understand the easy access to Europe bit...
The visa process from Dubai isn't anything different right?
