I have an upcoming hiring event this month. I see there are 300+ tagged ques in last 6months and I have randomly solved 106 ques in the past(which I feel I cannot solve now and need to revise) . It is not possible to solve all the ques. Should I continue studying the tagged list or solve ques from the MSFT explore cards ?

Also my recruiter said there can be a system design round though I have 1.7YOE. What are the best resources to prepare for system design round ? Does MSFT ask standard system design ques (like design tinyurl, twitter etc)

Folks who have attended hiring event in past , please share your exp ? Any tips/ suggestions are much appreciated.

  • If you are going for L60 there won't be any system design and if they do it will be more of a "Design LRU cache" style. For coding questions focus on array and string and basic graph questions. Go through explore card once though.

Just did atlanta hiring event, barely missed the offer but i was asked one LC the whole time, the others were basically write out binary search and another was a practical build out a graph which i brain farted on

Sure but thats about as much as I remember in all honesty lmao, the LC was a substring problem. 2yoe. Also seems like you gotta nail each round perfectly or ur rejected. I nailed 3/4 and was “almost given an offer but they went fwd with other candidates” according to recruiter

I literally got design url shortener in my MS loop a couple days ago for SWE 1. However the interviewer was pretty understanding and didn’t expect anyone junior to finish or go in any real depth. The stuff on grokking and system design primer should help.

From my experience having done a few interview loops with msft past few months, most rounds were otherwise straight off leetcode (particularly if you get an Indian interviewer) and if they weren’t, they were pretty easy variations of them. I would say LC is still your best friend and system design should be rather rare and if you do get it, the expectations should be pretty low for junior positions

I would just solve tagged questions as those were the ones that came up. As long as you know most of the patterns you should be good even just reviewing already solved stuff. Most things are fair game (strings, arrays most common, graphs are more rare, never had dp)
