I have an offer from GoDaddy in Seattle. Before I accept, thought I'd poll the current and past GoDaddies to see what they think of the place. Currently L5 but pretty much burnt out here. Specifically looking for growth opportunities, exciting work and most importantly sound WLB. What do you think? Worth leaving Amazon?

Whatever you vote, please also share some more of the thinking process.

Can't share specific details of the offer for anonymity.

Leaving Amazon to pretty much everywhere will help you recover from burn out and give better WLB. GoDaddy will give you great WLB. Despite what some think there are teams that work on great technical challenges and there are good growth opportunities. There are a decent number of ex-Amazon people here. However, we don’t put up with the toxic behaviors you find at Amazon. These people get pushed out. Culture is just as important and technical aptitude.

  • I got an offer there and turned down (no longer with sbux btw). Legit company with decent tech, their products and business are simply boring. I also sense quite a bit of it politics during the loops.

    • Hard to name anything specific. My loops were all directors and Sr directors from product and engineering, they blame each other (teams/orgs) and the number of “directors” in each org is unbelievable. Plus most of them only stay there for a short period time, which is a sign of mismanagement and bad culture. On the contrary, engineers seem to be very chill and features roll out very slowly, my take on it is heavy politics and product management negotiation before A thing can be done. Just my 2 cents, take it with a grain of salt.

Interesting. My loop had some directors, sr directors and PEs but all tenured 5+ years. Didn't hear anything about other managers through them though
