If you ever lived in any of these areas can you describe pls what is it like to live there for a single person or for a family?
Pls describe why.

Ie. Housing (buy vs rent), night life, outdoor activities, business, safety, entertainment, activities, life-hacks and savings, food, people, culture, investment, schools etc

  • Seattle > LA > SF, but depends on what you want.

    LA: great if single but the competition is fierce. something going on every single night, very social, but even your engineering colleagues are low key trying to make as a model/actor/dancer/influencer. Outdoor activities are available year round but it’s more like beach volleyball than hiking or kayaking. Food is amazing.

    SF: also good if single but want to stay single. if you’re ready to dive deep into the startup/VC scene, it’s great. If you don’t want to join a start up or found a start up, it’s annoying AF because that’s all anyone talks about. The nightlife is even around networking. people you meet who want to become VCs will hit you up for $. The quality of life wasn’t worth it for me. The sidewalk will suddenly smell like piss, you can’t afford anything, and you’ll feel uncomfortable walking alone late. Nature is nice but always a day trip rather than impromptu. Food is amazing.

    Seattle: has been my favorite thus far, but I’m not single anymore so I can’t comment on that. People here actually take adv of the nature and do hikes, kayaking/paddleboard, skiing, etc on the weekends. Coming from SF, I immediately bought property bc prices were cheaper for higher quality than CA. Food is pretty good, esp Asian, but you don’t have the world class chefs opening restaurants like you do in LA. And the public schools in Seattle and suburbs (for future kids) are frequently rated top in the state (whereas SF youd need to test into Lowell and LA you’re doing private).

    I did an internship in LA, lived in SF, and now live in Seattle.

      Good analysis, I would agree.

      Sichuanese Cuisine off Jackson in Seattle, or in Redmond has good stuff. Depends what specific variety of Chinese you are looking for

    LA is the best compromise. Good weather, nightlife, culture etc. Bay Area is expensive AF but not bad. Seattle is an expensive shithole

    Weather: LA>Bay area >Seattle. This is the one most important thing for me.

    Hiking: Seattle> Bay> LA

    Tech job openings: Bay > Seattle > LA

    Dating: LA > Seattle > Bay

    Food: Bay > LA > Seattle

    Access to direct International flights: Bay > LA > Seattle.

    Housing: LA > Seattle > Bay

    Saving: Seattle > LA > Bay

    Salaries: Bay > Seattle > LA

    People: Bay > LA > Seattle

    Schools: Bay > Seattle > LA

    Safety: Seattle > both are equally bad. Majority of area, San Mateo and below is good.

    Seattle is good for tech families. Beautiful nature, safe suburbs, high TC, more affordable than Bay, seafood
