SF versus San Jose

Jul 31, 2021 44 Comments

When I look at pictures SJ seems a lot prettier (palm trees) and cleaner.

How does it compare in general to SF/Oakland? Are there things to do? I’m in my low 20s and mostly looking for a pretty area, safety and cute bars/restaurants.

Also is there a major difference in weather?

EDIT: I am not looking for a man. 😂

    If you’re young, SF

If you’re older, especially if you have family, some of the suburbs in the bay are nice (San Carlos, Menlo Park, Atherton)

If you like a 10-1 male to female ratio then SF is for you.

    SF grades on a steep cure if you’re a woman. A SJ 5 is a SF 9.

  • San Jose has good bars. Santana Row and San Pedro Square are lit on weekends. SF smells like piss.

Both are substandard TBH. SJ is boring AF, basically a place for corpo employees to sleep, with no nightlife (or any life/hobbies for that matter) etc.

SF is filthy as hell and foggy/rainy. My team has people living in both and the SF crowd is younger/more cool, but i just can't get over the drug addicts, tent towns, trash, smell, crime, worse weather, difficult driving and traffic.

I'm from Europe, so my standards may be elevated, but given how bad these California cities are compared to Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague, Barcelona, Krakow etc. I opted for Bay Area suburbs over either of the cities. The life is slow, but at least there's nature, space, short commute etc. Though in this category SoCal (e.g. Orange County) is nicer.
