My wife is thinking about leaving her cushy government job to go to Facebook. She has about 10 years of experience, and she's worth way more than her current salary. She has been a consistent top performer and is considered a rockstar at work. How do I convince her to leave the public sector for a more well paying job? She says that no amount of money is worth leaving, when in reality, folks would be banging on her door to get them on board if she put herself out there more. Thoughts?

Yes, she'll make more money. If she's unhappy, you'll be the person who'll be blamed every single day.

Leave her alone. Money canโ€™t bring happiness after certain point. Also you need to provide more info if you have kids ? Planning to have ? How much she makes now ?

With 10 years experience, she could be in her early to mid thirties so safe to assume kids are just around the corner (if she can and they want) if they haven't already.

why limit to facebook? Thereโ€™s also Google, Microsoft, Amazon all which will probably pay higher. The workload will probably be much tougher at facebook. Also echoing what other people have said, itโ€™s not as simple as just wanting to get into facebook that you actually get in. The interviews are very tough, and even if you spend months preparing and doing hundreds of practice problems, you could still get unlucky during the phone screen and not even make the onsite. If she just wants to get paid more and still feel like a strong performer among her peers, and enjoy life, Microsoft would be the best bet. At Facebook, Amazon, Google, demands will be much higher. Many people who work at these companies now were top performers at their previous companies. The environment would very different. You could very well go from feeling brilliant to feeling mediocre. Just be prepared

Ask her to try the interview then make choice. Any join or not join discuss before she passing the interview is meaningless.
