PART 2: Referrals for hypergrowth startups/pre-ipo unicorns!

Hi folks! I've gotten so much out of startups within my own career that it just feels right to help give folks who are thinking about it a little push. It's scary but trust me! If you pick a well run startup, you probably won't regret it! FIRST OFF: THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY! A couple of folks were asking about what happened with my job search. I'll get to that in a moment but first of all, I'm impressed but not surprised by the response. People love to rag on the culture of Blind forums but if you ask me, that thread is proof enough of how far people will go to help one another out. SECONDLY: HOW DID MY SEARCH GO? As I continued on the interview process, it took a while but I got a couple incredible offers which were very impressive and which I was considering taking -- a couple at the seed stage VPE/CTO level and a couple at the Series B/C/+ Tech Lead/EM level. Honestly, they were all excellent opportunities, and I probably would have been happy with any of them. However, after I left AWS last year, I did some consulting with a mid sized retail firm that went pretty well, although the timing wasn't right to move into a more full-time engagement. I kept the relationship warm with the CEO, though, and caught up with the company a couple of months ago. Long story short, I very recently signed that company as my first keystone client for the SaaS product I'm building. It's a large enough contract for me to get going without necessarily needing to raise funding right away, which is really exciting for me. I've made the move from engineering leader to founder, and from CTO to CEO. It's scary but exciting. I'd be happy to speak to that if any of you are curious, but truth be told, things are still very early on for me and my company. When the time is right, I hope that I can one day add my company to this list of great companies that folks have clamored to offer referrals for and obtain referrals to.
