Guess what! There’s a mini Amazon inside Databricks.
If you are going to Databricks for better culture, you won’t find any because it’s now packed with Ex Amazonians. Even the low performing Amazonians are now leaders at Databricks taking hefty paychecks home so it’s no different and the toxicity is going to catch up.
Also they stealthily do informal reference check with your Ex colleagues even before you start interviewing and do a formal reference check before extending an offer.
I wish they were far sighted enough to think this through and I wish them good luck with their IPO (whenever that happens).
P.S. I had an offer from them that I had to decline because I am truly looking for a CHANGE which also means an opportunity to work with non Amazonians!

I’m sure there are Amazonians scattered in the company but they don’t appear to be common or toxic like you’re saying.
But even so, a company is just a company. People are people. I don’t think it’s good to judge somebody’s character based on what company they work for. I worked with some brilliant AWS engineers in past companies who were very friendly and supportive
