Developing a system of such scale or having to get it to every corner with the marketing.
I personally believe the marketing would be more difficult part.
People just need the use case and would barely care about its technical significance unless they’re engineers.
Convincing them to use the platform would be the bigger challenge I feel
What’s the more difficult job?

Facebook produces hundreds of internal tools and open source software to make Facebook what it is. There’s no way running a bunch of marketing campaigns is harder than literally inventing react.js or react native

  • I think there’s a lot more luck and right-place-right-time factors in getting people to use a platform. Marketing is important for this and having the right people/strategy is key. Other factors affect this as well, like product experience.

However, the actual process of developing a marketing strategy i would imagine is much less complex than creating a Facebook scale application. But harder in the sense that the likelihood of success even if you know what you are doing is lower.
