Hi all,
I just got an E6 offer at FB and several FB managers have already been trying to convince me to join their team. The recruiter seems to imply picking a team before joining (aka preallocation?) is not ideal. Could someone help me understand the pros and cons here? Thanks in advance.

Advantages to preallocation are:
1. There's a chance a team you really like has an opening now but won't by the time you're looking during bootcamp. (If you're starting soon, this is probably pretty unlikely.)
2. Team selection can be, to some degree, stressful, and you'd get to avoid that. Stressful just because you're spending time meeting and talking to different teams, evaluating them, doing bootcamp tasks for them, etc. Kind of stressful like trying to pick which college to go to when there are a lot of options.
Disadvantages are missing out on the bootcamp experience I mentioned above.
If teams are fighting for you to be preallocated, there's probably a lot of demand for you, so you probably have relatively little to gain and a lot to lose by locking yourself in at this point. I'd recommend against it, unless there's something you're just _really_ sure you want to work on.
Now that offices are reopening I would suggest enjoying the bootcamp phase
I would suggest keeping in touch with the managers and do team selection in bootcamp. You will get the chance to work on some tasks with the teams before making decision. Good way to get some sense of the overall team culture and who you will work with.
