I am a research bioinformatcian having 30-year experience in computer programming. I got PhD in bioinformatics in Germany. However, I have only worked in research environments so have no industry knowledge. Since my life goal is to develop a perfect solution for cancers so that it could reduce the cost of cancer therapeutics, contributing to public health care. 1. Lab or company suggestion I wonder which labs or companies are suitable for pursuing my goal. I would like to get involved in developing machine learning models for detecting cancers and predicting toxicity of polypharmacy in preclinical stage based on molecular profiles (genomic data, transcriptome and proteome) of samples (cellines, patient derived xenografts). 2. Expected salary I have no clue about salary as a software developer or research bioinformatcian in industry. I would appreciate it if you could share your knowledge. Thanks for reading. P. S. This is my first post in blind. #health #healthcare #machinelearning
Let me know if you are interested in drug discovery, I’d be happy to connect
Yes, I am interested in early detection and drug discovery using molecular profiles.
Me too! But I'm just a SWE having a soft spot for science. Could I be helpful anyway?
Tempus is hiring! Loads of openings for bioinformatics. In NYC, Chicago and Bay Area as well as some remote. https://www.tempus.com/careers/
Thanks for informing me about the company. However, the URL is not working, the backend code needs a fix.
My company is always looking for good candidates for pipeline developments for Next Gen Seq. We have entered in Liquid Biopsy as well. Check this and if you find something interesting let me know https://boards.greenhouse.io/personalisinc
Looks interesting! However I am more interested in developing core algorithms and models.
There are tons company in pharma, cancer detection etc
Thanks for your comment! It is the major reason why I wrote these questions.
Car-t/cell gene therapy is hot right now like kite, Bms, pact pharma, try Lyell.com
Thanks for your comment! I have read about computational biologist job posting of Lyell. However, I found that the job seems to be for other guys as I have different focuses. As a note, I think that developing web-based application should go to software engineers because it does not require biological knowledge. I will look into other companies as well. I really appreciate your time and consideration!
After reading your suggestions, I was able to find some relevant job postings which are well aligned to my life goals.
Guardant health
DM me for Thermo Fisher referral
Check out Livongo if you might like something. It's a medical device company and also hires lot of SE.
Arsenal Bio is where you should go. This company has a huge potential to grow and beat the market leaders.
I see you are 50+ I would say,go with your life goal as research scientist in lab. Because if you don’t choose it now.. I am not sure if you can achieve your life goal or not.. I am just saying this w.r.t age factor...
Thanks for your comment. However, I am 30+..
Oops Sorry I thought your have 30yr exp. okay. If you are 30+ age then go with option 2. And try option 1 after couple of years. I feel tech ——> lab research would be easier than lab research —-> tech transition.
