offer from a startup 155k base 11k bonus plus 10-15% performance based bonus . commute time might be anout 2 hrs per day round trip. no equity for now . current salary 133k but working from home . is it worth the leap . or shoukd i keep looking . In bay area now working for european company. about 8 years experience with masters from top 10 school
No equity mentioned on offer as company still going through funding rounds . But was told will be issued based on the level few months down the line
That's unusual - every startup is "still going through funding rounds" but they typically still give equity. Might be worth pressing on the reasoning for this
Most likely they are seed stage and haven’t yet issued an option pool. Either way, OP’s best bet is to Leercode and chill at Google
Fuck that commute. If you take the job, you should move.
Yeah I think the rent would be higher by at least five hundred dollars and my current place is very close to my girl friend’s employer
It at all comes down to what your goals and what you desire. No amount of advice here will give you what you’re looking for.
I am sure you can find a better opportunity. Startup not giving any equity seems a bit odd.
Was told will be awarded once the equity plan is established which will happen ‘soon’ after board of directors approve of the plan
Any amount in writing? Talk is cheap.
I would run away. After your foot is in the door ur at their mercy. Commute can be a deal breaker. Overtime it will wear on you, find the proper work/life balance. If your looking to learn something new and springboard into some new areas you haven’t explored it might be worth it. Otherwise I keep looking.
Should get in writing what percentage you’d be guaranteed at least. Assuming Bay Area, if that offer is only base + bonus and no equity, seems like a below-average opportunity especially considering it’s a startup
Commute + less flexibility to find another gig if you do not like it. You should continue to prepare and look for another opportunity.
Equity?
