Too risky to file complaint against manager to HR?

They are the type to lurk here (hi!). Basically, they’ve been playing favorites, under-grading me, and ignoring my dms/messages in regards to some concerns. This is all new behavior this quarter.

Is it too risky to bring this up to HR, since it will both sour our relationship officially, and likely result in the usual HR noop anyway? I’ve a very solid performance record at Indeed but idk if this could get him to retaliate/put me at the front of the layoffs queue.

Thanks!

HR would repeat your complaint verbatim to your manager then have your manager schedule a time with you to address it. Afterwords your manager if they're petty will find ways to retaliate against you.

Similar situation happened to me with a past manager. I brought it up to HR as we are supposed to have a no-retaliation rule. HR said they could not guarantee my anonymity and refused to move me under a new manager until the investigation was completed. So I told them to call it off, went to my 3rd line manager and got him to move me. Do you have a good relationship with your 2nd or 3rd line manager, or someone more senior in another team? Honestly that’s the only way to get out of this situation. Once someone is in management, his/her actions are above scrutiny unfortunately.

perhaps, it’s just a really expensive endeavor on my time so I’d rather he change than I. what’s the standard way to switch teams?

  • Read up on the topic of Constructive Discharge. Know your rights. Ask the company to follow the law. Politely.

Our hr team is trash and only there to protect their liability. They don’t do anything if you have a horrible manager
