folks, need some advice, please help YOE: 10 TC: 200 Got tired of coding some years back. now not interested in picking up serious coding once again. how to survive on H1B? are there less technical roles that qualify for H1B and pay decent? i know tech PM is one but are there any other options in engineering itself. any people managers on H1B here? is it risky from h1b perspective? Aim is to sustain on h1b with good work life balance and not wrecking my brain over coding Last option - going back to home country.
Aim sounds like retirement
Aim is minimal input and maximum output without affecting H1b status Basically take care of real life
Hire some cheap coders from home country
Not easy to coordinate
Try TPM roles
How old are you ?
TPM/PM and move to India.
Not moving to india anytime soon
If you are good with numbers then moving to analytics is a good option . Just write sql, make presentations all day
Have you considered sre/devops? Less coding, more config/infra management and on-calls.
How is the pay in those roles?
None of the managers sr managers and directors do any coding in top internet companies like Google FB LinkedIn Uber etc. The key thing is to get to management in one of these companies. For that you need to get in as an IC and move to management. Or get into management at eBay and then after few years shift companies as a manager. However that option is a bit harder. However please don’t think that management is less work. There is definitely lots of challenges and grunt work in management. Also you need to be very technical and be a domain expert plus know the design stuff very well. Just that you will not code.
Why is no one talking about the skills that op needs to navigate and excel at office politics. Management is difficult mostly due to this.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Move to people management.
That’s what I’m thinking but no opportunity in current company. Companies outside ask for prior people management experience. Kinda chicken and egg problem
Bad advice - don’t do that , in Bay Area If you don’t like coding you are a toast unless you are in sales, marketing or strategy. Engineering needs love for coding
