I did an onsite interview at Google with 5 rounds. One of the rounds didn’t go that well and the interviewer is a senior engineer. I’m a bit worried that he/she might give me a no hire and it would place a bigger weight on my reviews. I’m wondering can I contact the interviewers after the onsite (e.g. via HR), just to send a note to clarify some things I didn’t express well since it went overtime a bit.

  • Honestly when I am contacts after an interview, which happens from time to time, it doesn’t change anything material. I already expect someone given more time wil give a better answer, so you telling me how you would do something better after the interview doesn’t make me think you’re better or worse. In the interview I am measuring how well you do in the time constraints we have.

Manage yourself/career like a business. When you do, you’ll see there is no need for these kinds of questions. You play by your own rules and people respect that as much as they do the rule-followers. You have an opportunity to make a difference, why wouldn’t you take it? If you deem it necessary and valuable (low risk), then make it happen. Be professional, be to the point, be positive.

I wouldn’t do it as i don’t think it’ll change anything but if you really really want to, just make it look like a thank you note that sandwiches the explanation you want to pass on.

Just don’t make it too obvious that you’re tryna redeem yourself otherwise it will backfire as he will know that you are also aware of what went wrong with an interview

Don't do it. Google has a time bound, in the moment assessment. Reaching out after displays perfectionism and narcissism; it generally isnt a good look. I bombed one of my rounds, still got hired and killing it in year one. If it doesnt work out, learn and reapply at a later date.

    • Doesn't Google even claim that a lot of people who get offers have a bad single round? Maybe it's just my recruiter trying to make me less nervous lol.

I would hate it if someone did that to me, but that's me, other people might like it.
