How could the upcoming EO affect the F1 OPT program?

I know there is no point of making assumptions, but I would like to discuss what is likely and unlikely to happen.

I made list of possible outcomes related to OPT that could be caused by the EO.

1. Temporarily suspending the initial OPT
2. Removing the STEM OPT extension (what will happen to the valid STEM extension and the pending STEM applications)?
3. Not touching the active, pending OPT applications, but stop receiving new applications.
4. Banning people from re-entering the US with F1 OPT currently outside of the US.
5. Restrict STEM OPT extension to a specific industry.

I feel like number 1 and 2 are the most probable options and the other ones are pretty unlikely. The worst case would definitely be revoking all active/pending STEM OPTs. What do you guys think are likely to happen and are not even close to happening?

I think for most OPT/STEM holders, the biggest concern is revoking the active/pending STEM/OPT, which I heard that it is not that likely to happen. But it seems pretty likely that the OPT program itself will be limited somehow.

Anyone outside US won’t be able to come for 180 days, anyone inside will be safe

This is all BS. Please don't waste your time here. If trump wants he can push all H1B holders and revoke OPT/CPT or whatever fucking program/policy he wants outside the US.
Only thing we can do is to raise voice against Trump and trust in democracy. Many leaders have been posting on LinkedIn and other media channels regarding the same. Your voice counts too.

I doubt they will just remove the OPT program. But in the worst case, they can temporarily suspend the STEM extension.

  • Flagged by the community.

  • Have been in US for 6 years, every year there's a new EO in news saying that this will change/that will change. Nothing changes.
