This is extremely beneficial for Amazon to grow but at the cost of burning through and killing its employees except Sr management who are in their AC glass tower watching the labourers burn to exhuastion.
FYI this is the truest example of capitalism. Have you seen workers in Foxconn working 11 hours a day in China? Its same except you work as a code monkey.
Either ways the strategy has seemed to work for Amazon because it threatens to enter markets of every other established players.
In single sentence,
Basically its a "sliding window of top talent" π that they dynamically adjust based on incoming candidates and vacancies.
PS: It does not work and execs are too busy patting their own backs to realize what a hole they are digging for themselves.
