  • I froze halfway because I had not fully prepared for the interview at all. I didn’t have a single response to most of the questions. The interviewer noticed this and decided to shift the conversation and ask me about my passions. Luckily I can talk about mountaineering and hiking for days so we spent the entire interview talking about that.

Shockingly, I was offered the job

This was for an engineering role at Amazon this year

I kind of got him and I let him do that, he came back and I gave him another problem he solved it real fast

Lunch interview: I was paired with my female colleague. The candidate kept looking at me while answering. Even when my colleague asked questions, he didn’t look at her while answering her questions. It’s a huge red flag and we don’t hire this person even though he did well on technical interviews.

@oCjX03 that should make anyone uncomfortable. And keep in mind the interviewer is in a position of power so why should they handle some psycho that refuses to look at someone when they talk?

It doesn't mean that they can't handle it, it means they have no reason to deal with that shit. It's a massive red flag. You're right that reality is harsh. All the more reason to weed out toxic assholes.

And sure you may come back and say that you would have no problem with that, it may be because you don't have to deal with this type of behavior on a regular basis. Also, this type of person is going to throw a grenade into whatever team they join. I'm a man, and I wouldn't stand for having someone on my team that doesn't acknowledge all of the team members.

  • Happened couple of years back. Interviewer asked me a question related to dijkstras shortest path algorithm or something similar. Had a blackout moment. Sat through one hour without a word.

Had a candidate ask me where I went to school. After I shared, they pointed toward their hand and asked was it because of the color of my skin (implied). My brain went into fight mode and listed my HS accomplishments. He was dismissive until I mentioned that I grew my own novel extracellular matrix mimicking artificial tissue as a part of a medical research project. He then said “cool” and HE ended the interview.

I was the interviewer…they did not get the job.

Happy to know he was so bold about his racism. Just makes the weed out process that much easier
