I recently received a new grad SWE offer from Bloomberg (TC 170k) and it’s my understanding that the company wants to return to office at some point.

Can anyone who works at Bloomberg give me anything more concrete? What’s the general sentiment among engineers and team leads? When do you think a mandated return to office/hybrid is going to happen?

March 7 3 days a week, it was communicated to us that this would be a permanent thing (3 days in office) as in no 5 days a week required after COVID if that's ever a thing.
While so many complain about the transparency regarding RTO I'd like to mention they gave us the courtesy of a few weeks heads up and I don't see how that's so bad, they did cancel RTO last time because of the new wave that nobody saw coming, but seems blind is full of outraged employees.

As someone joining post 2019 I would expect you to pick Bloomberg only if you're comfortable with working in the office, I'm sure they were clear about that during HR round, this isn't and won't be a remote work company

  • If you are looking for full remote, this isn’t a company you are looking for

  • The transparency and communication around RTO is absolute dog shit. Upper management should be ashamed of themselves. One time they postponed RTO a week before we were supposed to come back. How the fuck are people supposed to plan around that?

Good TC for new grad but don't take the offer expecting remote. They want people in office and they time when you enter and exit the building and it tells your manager how many hours a day you are in. They want 9 hours a day in NYC (10 in London) LOL

This is bullshit, lots of people enter and leave the building plenty of time during the day and it only shows the last action and current status (for instance IN entered last at HH:MM), most people go out for lunch and I never heard of a manager using this against people, except for people who enter after the first meeting like enter at 10:15+ on a regular basis while first meeting is at 10

    • For what it's worth I have been at BBG for over 5 years and this is mostly nonsense.

Yes, you have to badge in and out of the office, and your user profile shows in/our times. But I've had multiple managers and lots of friends at BBG with other managers and never once heard someone being given shit about their hours. Yeah, if you punch in at 11 and go home at 2 regularly maybe, but certainly never heard of anyone getting a talking to because they didn't do 10 hours in office in London. At least not for eng.

  • It’s already happening. Ask your recruiter, and they can give you proper insight. Hybrid so far.
