Got offer from ByteDance as Backend Software Engineer for their Trust and Safety Platform. Is anyone aware of the quality of work and growth opportunities in their Singapore office?

Offered TC: 130K SGD (110K Base + bonus + RSUs)
YOE: 7 years

Have competitive offer from Amazon Toronto (TC: 190K CAD). Does it make sense to give ByteDance a try?

If you can’t speak Chinese, it is never a good idea to work at bytedance.

Unless you want to take a risk for the experience of working with 800M mau user base and jump to gpay team in Google sg or fb sg later.

I heard the working hours can be tough (few samples said constant 50hours a week) in Bytedance. Hope the engineers there can confirm.

190k CAD is way way better than 130k SGD. you can save ton of money via RRSP deductions. Your actual tax rate will be way lower. You can’t just compare blind absolute tax rates .
Not to mention that Vancouver renting is cheaper than Singapore

Not true. Lived in toronto for quite awhile. You can stay in suburbs for about $1000 for a room and city area for about $2000. Same can be said for Singapore. But Toronto can be better for staying in suburb and owning a car. Vehicle prices in Singapore is too expensive.

Food and dine-in is at least twice that of Singapore. But comparable for home-cooked meals +-20%.

I would consider other factors like growth of each tech hub, distance to home country, cost of having a family. Distance to home country can be a big one for long term.
