So it’s a long saga I don’t want to type out but basically I’m kinda done with Google. I started my L5 interview journey (recruiter chose L5 loop after first round I didn’t have a say) at the beginning of summer and I’m not in team match and don’t have HC feedback yet.
My interview feedback was basically SH, SH, H, LH, LH and I technically have the yoe for L4 not L5 so I acknowledged I wouldn’t mind an additional interview or down-leveling to L4 if requested. Not stellar mind you but it was good enough to get the recruiter motivated…or so I thought.
I’ve had two recruiters now. Each has ghosted me at least once until I reached out to another recruiter saying the new recruiter wasn’t responding. I was dunked in and out of team match by while being ghosted (the recruiter apparently put my incomplete packet up to be seen but then forgot about it, didn’t update it with completed feedback until 3 weeks later when I called him out). Then got told I was just gunna go straight to HC before I even got a match and now I’m being ghosted again after 3 weeks. Don’t even know my chances of passing without a single team match.
So here is my issue that’s been nagging me. At this point, I could give a fuck about the google job. Which is sad because it’s a job I’m really interested in and the engineers and pms that I’ve met that have worked there are definitely my kinda people. But being a pm I’m looking at the cost/value here.
If I can interview at T-FAAN and not be put through such a gross recruiting encounter while still getting competitive pay/prestige, what is my incentive to interview at google and put up with being treated so disrespectfully by people with no value for you or your time? (Dramatic right? I know my experience isn’t the same as everyone’s but we’ve all read enough about google recruiting/interviews nightmares to know what I mean).
I’m just looking for other’s thoughts on how they justify putting up with that. I’m sure there are some get over it perspectives but please try and grasp the deeper point I’m getting at. I don’t see google changing their ways but I think a candidate should feel valued by a company they’re going to join. At this point I feel like if I get an offer I’ll just be accepting for ego for the G rather than really wanting to work there…
Thanks for letting me rant, look forward to hearing your thoughts! Also any google employees I’d love to hear your thoughts about this; if you think it’s a problem at all and if so you think there would be any level of improvement the way feedback is currently collected.

The best advice I’ve seen on this: “G is great to interview with if you’re reasonably happy in your current role and in no rush to move.”
Keep G in the background while you’re looking at other stuff. If they come through, great! If not then you have other stuff going on and don’t need to worry about it.
