Since no one is required to come to office at Twitter, what are the chances of them hiring someone in a city they dont have an office in.

In my case they have an office in Toronto, I live on the west coast.

Gitlab does this and has a public comp calculator. Most MCOL cities are 80% of SF comp and living in the middle of nowhere gets you 70% of SF TC. I assume more companies will start something similar minus the public calculator part

  • If you check their careers page, there’s a ton of “remote USA” roles posted in the last few days. Not seeing much in the “remote Canada” section though

The role I applied for is US remote with team in SF and Boulder. But wondering if some in case time in Canada will be considered.

  • you might get paid salaries for where that office is unless where you live is lower COL otherwise someone could work from a rural town in Kentucky for a team in SF

    • You’d be fine with being paid Toronto pay in sf? Canada offices don’t pay much, like <100k

I won’t be living in SF so I would be ok with a salary competitive in local market. US companies still pay much higher than Canadian companies. And if I’ve a good interview, I know I can negotiate aggressively. Whatever they pay me they will still be saving money compared to SF.
