    Wrong. Free markets and less regulation are the best we can do. Sometimes there just isn’t enough space and that is OK.

      California is a good example of failed housing regulations. Terrible zoning laws prevent supplies from growing. Rent controls in cities screw up the market. Since it is more profitable to turn houses into condos and sell rather than renting out and being forced to rent low due to rent control. Terrible "renter protection laws" result in landlords not willing to rent to strangers who would take more than a year to evict if refusing to pay rent. I am not a home owner but I feel the pain of Cali people.

      Everything that the leftist put to "help the poor" ended up exacerbating the rental maker crisis. Oh, also did I mention the 6k per person expenditure on homelessness? We have a crisis, and the solution is not more regulations.

    In a lot of major Chinese cities it’s one condo per family and if you want to buy a second one, the minimal down payment is 70%. However, price is still insanely high.

      You own the condo, gov owned the land, your developer leased the land for 70 years on your behalf . Nobody knows what will happen after 70 years , the currently regime is still pretty young .

  • So you’re taking away the ability for a family to choose to rent a SFH? What makes you think investors are the cause of high housing prices?

    You know what would probably make a dent in high purchase prices is undoing prop 13. It would drive a loose a correlation between rent price and cost of owning a home. Otherwise you end up with this huge disparity between rent and housing price
