Is it easy to move from marketing automation to operations?

Apr 20 2 Comments

Hi, I’m currently in marketing automation. My day-to-day job involves scheduling campaigns in Marketo, ensuring data quality and implementing campaign tracking. I’m interested to move into marketing operations, doing things such as developing multitouch attribution analysis, managing lead flow and designing marketing dashboard. In my current organisation (not autodesk), both teams are separate and it’s difficult to do a lateral shift into the MOPs team as they are based in another country. Hence, I would like to check if its hard to move from a marketing automation to marketing operations role (even in another company)? Also, are there any additional skills that I should pickup? Eg SQL

In my org (no longer at Adobe) marketing automation people are on a “marketing services” team within MOPs. So the short answer is yes, you could easily join a MOPs team at another company

It sounds like you’re interested in analytics. Which is just a different “pillar” of MOPs. Since you’re in marketo you have access to a lot of data so start making dashboards or doing audits that would help your team. Develop additional skills in parallel with actual analyses that are worth something to your org. Get some resume bullet points then start applying around

And big yes to SQL + any data viz tool
