Not to paint a doomsday picture, but bonuses are not as good as they used to be.
There’s no direct relation between your performance and your bonus or promotion unless someone on the top likes you personally.
If you are okay with keeping your head down and working quietly while people make irrational decisions, it’s not bad since the base will be above average if you negotiate. If you want to negotiate for staff, you could do that because the bar for staff eng varies a lot in the company. Some are laughable.
