Anyone knows what do the employees get after an IPO? I keep hearing the they get rich but how? Do they get more stocks or anything like that?

They can finally liquidate their options or RSUs. Early employees might get "rich" after the initial lockdown period. But most likely just a nice extra paycheck for most employees, if they decide to sell...

Generally, you need to be an early enough employee to get rich from IPOs. From what I’ve heard from friends, if you’re the < 100th employee (depending on company of course) you can even get like close to 0.1% equity (depending on role). If the company IPOs at even a $1bn market cap, that’s $1 million.

Of course if you’re early enough to get sizable equity, you’re also taking a big risk. At that time, your equity is nearly worthless since it’s very uncertain whether the company will succeed and launch its IPO.

Most don’t get rich, but it’s a lot of money all at once - more the longer you’ve been at the company since it’s been illiquid.
