No one will take you serious for 6 months. After which it can take 2-3 years, depending on the team you join. Since there will be people trying before you, who would have priority.

Any hope for amzn L5 to get hired as T5 considering the uneven bar at amzn?

I was replying to norrhman's comment that he got L7 at Google while being L6 at Amazon

I was promoted to L7 during the interview process. But yes, this is true. I had L8 offers elsewhere (unicorns). Even crazier - I turned down the offers and stayed at Amazon. Obviously, I was misleveled at Amazon in the first place - but you can never be hired at a higher level than you interview at and I didn't understand this coming here as it was my first big tech experience (I have 16 YOE).

I made T5 in ~1.25 years. Just operate like you’re already T5. Don’t sit around waiting for work but understand the project goals and anticipate or proactively implement required functionality.

Don’t rock the boat too much early on. Do what your TL wants and only argue points you’re confident you’re in the right on. Once you have some trust of peers/manager/TL you can relax this one, but bias towards being a yes-man for the first 6 months.

Communicate well. Write clean tested code, and lots of it. Write design documents along the way.

Most importantly is develop a good relationship with your manager. He’s the one that can advocate for you. Usually this is easy if you do the above.
