Hey all, I've recently applied for content strategist roles at Blackrock and JP Morgan Chase. Is there anyone out there that works in a UX role at a finance company? I'm trying to get some insight into what it's like. How is it different from working at a traditional tech company? Thanks!

Be prepared for red tape and bureaucracy. Pushing a copy change is like birthing. You’ll have legal, compliance, risk and everyone else with an opinion weighing in.

Financial orgs are conservative so forget meaningful experimentation and A/B testing. They’re more concerned with not getting sued or fined (rightfully so one could argue).

What about salary? These are for senior roles in NY, and I'm currently in the Bay Area. Should I expect a bump?

JPM will pay you well if it’s a senior role. Can’t comment on Blackrock.

If you’re coming from the Bay Area, you’re going to find the banking tech and design scene antiquated. It could serve in your best interest if you want to be the big fish at the company.

The trade off you need to assess is whether you’re ready to deal with the bs politics that come with banking and politics. The product development Culture is inherently conservative and you won’t be able to make much change to that. You’ll have good wlb though.
