I see a lot of buzz about Splunk with their performance and compensation on blind. I wanted to share my experience here and see if this is the case with most of their hiring teams.

Recently I applied to splunk and got a mail from hiring manager itself where he mentioned that he was impressed with my work experience and background. Hiring Manager didn't show up for three times and keeps re-scheduling the call. He didn't even bother to apologize. Again for the fourth time he asks for available time slot. I don't want to sound desperate by confirming the time slot but I wanted to tell him that this is not the way hiring should be. I don't want to work for a manager who is irresponsible and ignorant. At the same time I want to give a try to interview at Splunk. How do I reply to him? Is this common with Splunk hiring teams?

  • Best thing to do is just clam up and give a time slot to him. No point trying to satisfy your ego and sending him a smart-ass reply exposing his poor behavior. It is not going to be of any use.

Stop being a child. Being offended is useless. If you want the interview, just ask the recruiter to have him/her call you in the evening, during commute etc. If you don’t want the interview then just quit.

If you want a boring prescheduled life, go to Cisco/ibm/etc. If you want to work in fast-paced rapidly changing/growing then get used to this kind of thing.

Op- No one here knows. It is all speculation. Maybe their spouse is dying of cancer and they had to rush to hospital. Maybe the recruiter never confirmed with the manager. Maybe there is a production issue every time you were scheduled. We don’t know anything so don’t be offended by it. If you are interested in splunk, offer potential solutions. If they are a decent manager in the end, they will reward you for your perseverance. If they are a shitty manager in the end, just don’t join that group.

Did you actually get a confirmed time slot or you just offered 3 times that you are available?

October is one of Splunk’s busiest months going into.conf so it’s possible that the manager had genuine reasons to postpone those calls. Perhaps you should take the call and see what he has to say. You don’t lose anything. Also you can make the decision to work or not work for him after the call, during the interview or after the offer has been made. No point in fretting about something that may or may not happen.

He didn’t show up for the fourth time also. I don’t understand how this ignorant f*** became a manager to lead a team.

Same thing actually happened to me with splunk... I did 2 interviews (1 with HM, 1 with another manager) then I was supposed to do a 3rd but it kept getting canceled. I tried giving them my availability but eventually got ghosted by the recruiter

A month later, the hiring manager texted me and we got on a call after work. Now I’m interviewing for a different role on the same HM’s team and it’s just 1 phone interview with the EVP. Interesting process so far but was glad to get the call back from the HM
