After living most of my life in midtown Manhattan and spending most of my professional work life in a cubicle, I am petrified of the idea of going back to the office because I enjoy the immense freedom remote work gives me. Now I am being showered with offers from investment banks at the Associate level, but they too want me in a midtown Manhattan office 5x per week. I would be interested in making the jump from corporate banking to advisory. Outside of banking, finding a fully remote finance position is easier said than done because it seems that everyone in finance wants to be remote so it’s ultra competitive. Furthermore, a lot of these jobs are for FP&A positions that seem pretty boring. So my two options are to either get an MBA at 28 yrs old and make a career switch, or teach myself how to code and make a career switch to tech. What would you guys recommend?
Samesies, I am trying to learn to code bc I want out. Idk what is it with going back to the office. Record profits and productivity but back to the office full time? With my tin foil hat on, I personally think it is NYC and big real estate incentivizing/Working with the banks and business in general to get people back in the city since it has lost most of its allure and more importantly money. Who best to get NYC back up and running than working professionals to spend their cash on overpriced coffees and salads?
Many firms are allowing hybrid (2-3 days in the office) if you’re willing to compromise
Hi, which firms are these?
BNP is hybrid. Also because we gave up a bunch of real estate and we can’t all fit in without causing a health and safety issue. Also the old guys want us back in but most juniors are laughing them off.

Time to learn to code and switch. Boomer bankers desperately want us all at the office.
