I checked out the websites of some VC firms but didnt see any job openings posted there, rather they show the job openings at the companies they have invested in.

I am an L5 SWE, interested in moving to a VC firm, what should be my strategy for transitioning? Also, what will be the right role at VC firms for a SWE?

  • Start a company, have a successful exit, join a VC firm as partner.

SWE - Join a vc firm and work on their deal sourcing tech.

Angel investor / business degree: Join as associate with low chance to be promoted and low pay

Generally, go to the websites of the funds you would be part of, click on team and then read their job description and prior work experience. Think through if either job sounds interesting and what additional experience you need. Lastly, these jobs are rarely posted publicly — > start networking

  • Check wallstreetoasis as well, they may have more info. It seems like starting your own company -> VC firm is a common path. Another common and perhaps more reliable path would be MBA -> VC firm. Also last I checked starting pay for entry level is ~80-100k.
