I know it’s expensive, but developed city, walkable what is great.

What about climate? Is it hot and humid?

Who lived there share your feelings, do you miss Boston?

I've been in Boston for a little over 2 years now after moving for FB. I liked it a lot more than my short while in the bay area. I lived in a few different places outside the city, like Watertown, Brighton, Natick, and then moved into the city - Back Bay and have been having a lot of fun.

It's not cheap, but is cheaper than SF / NYC. Keep in mind being cheaper than those places does not mean cheap. Lol.

Walkability - Yeah it's great, I walk all over. The core city is very small relative to say NYC which is a sprawling mass of urban jungle gym.

Climate - Typical Northeast, we get very cold, we get very hot + humid. The hot days are typically not around for a long time, it just feels like forever to me.

Lots of things to do, lots of good weekend / day trips within driving distance, I really enjoy the seafood. I would say my biggest gripe is that everything closes really early for a city imo and the draconian alcohol laws. Rec weed is legal which is great imo.

I would say the biggest con of the city is my impression is the tech scene is not very comparable to other tech hubs - NYC / SF / Bay. There is almost no where I could hop to and get even close to the comp I have at FB, while in other tech hubs there would be options. Here I basically have to do remote, or hop around the other FAANG satellite offices. Something to keep in mind.

My WLB is good imo I like the teams and the work and yeah. Doesn't feel like a death march but maybe cause I'm in infrastructure stuff not product.

I'm a 4. FB Bos seems to be hiring a good amount this year might be worth the look.

Feel free to dm if you have specific questions

I love it. I also love the snow and cold, too. It is one of the most expensive cities in the US (not West Coast or NYC levels, but still very high), but salaries don’t seem to match the expense of living there.

You’re also a short drive to other places in New England, so taking enjoyable vacations is way easier than say…in the Midwest.

I lived there for a year and did not like it. People seemed really aggro and unfriendly. Get ready for every god damn person to be talking about the “Sox” and the “Pats”.

The T really sucks for transportation. It’s like a pretend subway.

Food was OK but not enough variety.

I went there recently and had a good time but would not want to live there again.

Also happy hour is illegal in Mass! Look it up!

I lived a Cambridge for some time. Nice area, clean, wide side walk, good public transportation. Winters can be bad. It’s pretty cheap vs west coast cities.

  • It's a great city when you're in school or young and single because of the population. But I grew tired of it, mostly due to the shitty weather, terrible driving conditions, and more limited food options relative to the West Coast.
