Hello! I am a new grad starting a Meta/Facebook soon. I like the San Mateo area a lot and looking to rent there when I start.

Has anyone working for Meta/Facebook ever lived in that area? How long is the commute to work? And how is the company shuttle situation in the San Mateo area?

Thank you ahead!!! I would really appreciate any insight!!

  • Why not live in Newark? It’s growing & close to Fb office and less affordable

Salesforce. 1.75m for Newark new construction is definitely bad choice in long term. New community in Newark is like lipstick on a pig. As you said individual priority I am just giving my opinion

Why don’t you live in Redwood City? It is 10 minutes by shuttle

Why does commute matter? You don’t need to come into the office often if at all. And there are shuttles with WiFi. Don’t optimize for commute but choose lifestyle instead.

If you like San Mateo then you should stay there. If things don’t work out move after a year. That’s the flexibility in renting. Don’t overthink.

  • It’s short. I don’t know why you’d live in San Mateo (I’m guessing you’re not gonna live near el camino if you “like it” - lol) but it’s a short commute. You’re better off with Menlo Park or RWC, IMO.

Commute to FB is pretty short. Traffic getting into the lots is the slowest part.
