I have seen posts claiming that African Americans are discriminated against in Tech and have lower representation.

By that same logic , aren’t Asians discriminated against in NBA ?

  • 'Blacks?!' You must be Indian. Only you guys and racist white people from the south refer to black people in such a derogatory manner.

It is about market not welfare. India is far from a affordable country and cannot afford big sports market. The size of sports market depends on the size of economy (as a whole country plus GDP per capital).

@kelendria: it’s not genetically linked. It’s what you like doing and what you practice doing and hence are good at it.

You can’t blame ur lack of interest and hence lack of talent on others.

  • Can we just stop the bullshit on all sides. I’m Hispanic and I looked up to both MJ and Larry Bird. Why we gotta make everything about sticking with the tribe? Being an individual is what matters.

Edit: I didn’t make it to the NBA obviously, but I also looked up to a bunch of people completely unlike me making headlines in this industry and ended up here as well.

The NBA would love to have more Asians to capture more markets, but it’s a talent issue.

Companies hiring minorities helps making future generations better, but trying to make sports more diverse doesn’t quite work the same way

I think the point I was trying to make is that hiring these minorities can do social good. By giving them opportunities that they otherwise would not have, then that would empower future generations and in turn help all of society going forward.

In the NBA, signing a minority without talent isn’t going to make future generations talented in a physical sense. In engineering, that can be the case.

@ottoman, it is the same as engineering. By not seeing any role models jn NBA, Asian Americans have less desire to pursue the career in sports or even try. Therefore, even less opportunities to find Asian players. One reason for diversity hire is giving them an initial opportunity to enter to the workforce. Also, Jeremy Lin if you haven’t heard of.

Yes, but can NBA fill it's Asian quota by hiring Asian janitors and cheerleaders?
