I have 9 years of experience in financial management. Started in the waste industry and did a heavy amount of financial modeling in excel and worked with a few other programs. Worked in an area with a lot of growth and we were bidding on contracts a few times a month. Moved up from the staff accountant role into a Controller role where I still performed close, financial analysis, as well as supervising employees. Now in a job as a Controller with an Auto Dealership group. I have 20 employees under me. Job is more supervisory/process improvement as well as performing close which I have heavily automated since starting this role. I have also spearheaded a number of changes like our AP and POS systems which made life easier on the office staff and sped up transactions for customers.

What skills should I brush up on to get a job in tech in the bay area? I already have an MBA and working on my CMA. I take Part 2 in February and already passed Part 1. I had exposure to programs like tableau when working in waste, but that was 5 years ago and the dealership software that is used is very outdated so I have not been able to build as many software skills outside of excel and VBA. Even those two were not heavily used until I came in.

Moving to the Bay Area in the next year as my wife will be working out there. She is interning at Meta this summer and will more than likely have a job offer once she graduates from her masters program in December. #corpfinance #finance #fpa
