I agree Airbnb handles layoff much differently from something like Uber, but it is still layoff after all. Am I the only one that feels tired of the thankful posts about Airbnb on LinkedIn and even feels disgusted to see people “like” these posts?

Is it that hard to believe people liked working at Airbnb?

They shouldn't be giving that much. 14 months paid COBRA? Six months severance?

With that package they could have got their act together and pivoted.

Lol some people can’t be satisfied. First it’s a slap in the face, now they shouldn’t be giving that much. What a troll.

What a shame that people like the company they work for. What an even bigger shame that they understand the layoffs were not personal but a means to stay afloat as an org. Everyone saw it coming and leadership was clear on what the possibilities were to cut costs. Sorry that Airbnb doesn’t operate like crappy Uber and treats employees with value and compassion. The Airbnb hate smells like straight up jealousy at this point y’all need to find another company to biii and moan about.

Can't agree with you more. There's no upside/downside to saying anything but the truth on how we feel about the company since it's anonymous here. I still believe in our mission even with everything going on and am rooting for it to get through stronger on the other side.

I personally think we have one of the best company cultures around! Think about it. People are laid off, and many of them are sad but still love the company because of how that are treated. That's doing things right even in the shittiest of circumstances.

Same. I see why people could think we’re a cult. Hell, maybe we are. But compared to most companies, Airbnb’s culture has been great. Most exec leadership and coworkers are good people, even if we have our frustrations with eachother and the tech stack is hard to work with. Compared to what I see at other companies, we have been lucky.

Idk if it’s Stockholm Syndrome or what. I know people at companies who had a meeting w/ higher ups and/or their bosses that promised no layoffs. “We’re good, we can last years!” And then 2 weeks later laid off. And they still go on LinkedIn and jerk off the company thanking it for everything. Airbnb is pretty good with 2 months pay. But still, you just got canned. You don’t owe them anything.

What are they supposed to do?

Shit on the company that employed them publicly? No recruiter would contact a person thst shit on their company publicly.

They might hate Airbnb for laying them off, but they can't say it publicly

You’d be thanking the company too if you got six months pay and 14 months Cobra for sitting on your ass doing whatever you want, like I got.

    • Don't forget. More posts equals more views, which helps your post go up with how the algorithm works, which means more people seeing it and giving you sympathy likes and referring you to jobs, and more headhunters reaching out to you. It's all a game. More sappy posts equals more likes which equals better employment opportunities. Don't hate the player, it's how the game works
