A few years back Netflix was the dominant streaming video player. Over the last couple of Amazon's offering seem to have improved.
Also I really like the idea of being able to buy a recent movie which I want to watch.
Is Amazon going to do to Netflix what Netflix did to blockbuster?
Thoughts on the above?

First, the Netflix apps are the best on the market, even that is still far from perfect. Amazon video apps are a bit awkward.
Netflix exclusive content quality and quantity sky rocket the last couple of years. Amazon just have a few, and they are not that impressive. On the other side, I think Amazon have something going with the HBO deal.
User interface is easier and more intuitive
Each one in my family can have their own profile
Content is much more and better
Amazon I have a tough time browsing all the prime only videos
It keeps getting mixed up with non prime when I go from one selection to other similar types etc
I do however feel the quality of streaming for Netflix is better specifically adjusting to network changes.
The subscription channels of Amazon is something which I feel is a very nice thing. I can subscribe one for 2 months, cancel and then go for a different one.
I don't think either is going away. Even if Amazon Video was losing money, it's a Prime sticky point so it would be hanging around. Hulu might end being the Blockbuster you were talking about. But Hulu seem to be doing well enough I'm not expecting them to drop out.
