I have 6 concurrent offers (Montréal, Canada)

Location: Montréal, Canada. All numbers are in CAD. I'm posting this in hope that my Canadian friends can leverage this info to finally get us to move closer to USA salaries, rather than being seen as cheap labor. Companies: Amazon, Meta, Coinbase, Lyft, Microsoft, Virtu Financial. This is only the first iteration, so I'm actually still waiting to hear back the negotiated numbers. The offers format is: level, base, bonus, RSU (per year), signon, TC, location, vacation, got initial offer in writing without even asking. Microsoft: L61 (SDE2), 115, up to 20%, 25, 20, 145, remote, 3 weeks (but HM said "basically unlimited"), no. Lyft: SDE2, 100, 0, 56, 10, 156, remote, unlimited?, no. Coinbase: SDE2, 150, 8, 71, 0, 229, remote, unlimited, yes. Meta: SDE2, 150, 15%, 92, 10, 263, remote, 21 days + 2 personal days + unlimited sick days, yes. Amazon: SDE2, 189, 0, 90, 49, 235, remote, 3 weeks + 6 personal days, yes. Virtu: none, 150, 125, 0, 25, 275, NYC, 5 weeks + unlimited sick days, no. Three of these offers started the process with recruiters saying there would be no option for remote work. Then somehow Microsoft said they'd be ok with full remote during the onsite, Lyft ended up posting a blog article about their remote-friendliness during my interviews, and Virtu ended up mentioning how they are experimenting a bit with Canadian remote work after they gave me their initial verbal offer. I'm not including Virtu in the poll because with these numbers there is no reason for me to ever want to relocate to NYC. Although they did mention they should be able to update their offer to 450 TC + 50 signon. Both Lyft and Coinbase are considering an uplevel to be able to make their offer competitive. As prep, I completed approximately 70 LC, and read a bit of Grokking System Design. Current TC: 110k 2.5 YOE

That amazon base. Would Tempt anyone to take it tbh

SAP slack007 OP Apr 26, 2022

Yet somehow Meta still had better TC and benefits. Moreover, probably a better culture to reward high performers, I'm guessing?

Microsoft sherputtar Apr 26, 2022

Yes. I was looking at it with Toronto glasses on. That base guarantees a pre approval of atleast 800-900k mortgage.

Microsoft sherputtar Apr 26, 2022

Super congrats!

Accenture kfsfgzvb Apr 26, 2022

Congrats OP. What kind of work were you doing in SAP?

SAP slack007 OP Apr 26, 2022

Cloud-native greenfield backend stuff.

SAP ngiii Apr 26, 2022

Congrats man

IBM Toadxyzz Apr 26, 2022

Nicely done!

Hey OP, congrats! 🚀 Fellow Canadian here. Great to see your success. I would definitely choose between Meta, Amazon and Coinbase. Blind peeps seem to be very happy with Meta. Are these backend roles and what is your yoe. Can you also share your process for preparation and interview details? Thanks!

Amazon flvR61 Apr 26, 2022

Congratulations OP! Did you have to negotiate with Meta and share the competitive offer? If yes, can you share what was their first offer? Making sure I’m reading correctly, Meta giving 92k as joining bonus. Right? Congratulations again!

SAP slack007 OP Apr 26, 2022

That's their initial offer, and you're talking about the RSU component.

Amazon flvR61 Apr 26, 2022

Oh joining bonus 10k seems very low.

Congratulations 🎉 OP

Formatting sucks but congrats and welcome to Meta

What is sde2 for meta?

SAP slack007 OP Apr 26, 2022

I hate the non-standard leveling approach of each company. To keep it simple: SDE2 = mid-level
