Suck at whiteboarding

I realized I am ok coding on the laptop but coding on the whiteboard is a different game. I don't have access to inputs or outputs while whiteboarding, which is different from practicing on leetcode. I am unable to visualize the output after every chunk of code, and it makes it even harder on the whiteboard with limited space access and difficulty in going back and forth or inserting/deleting lines.

FWIW, both Amazon and Google now allow coding via a basic editor for on-sites instead of a whiteboard. Google will provide a Chromebook, Amazon asked me to bring my own laptop.

It is kinda odd that you are unable to vizualise your code in execution. I mean, It is part of the whole “Think out loud”, if you cannot do this how are you going to be able to explain your solution? One advice I think is good is when you are writing your code speak out loud to yourself your solution if you dont have a partner.

  • Just write your code on a piece of paper when you leetcode, afterwards type it into the editor and check if it works.
